The kit will comprise of two discs two brackets and two concentric rings 4 x 40mm cap head screws and the correct HT 10.9 M12 flanged head screws x4. The discs are drilled and grooved or you can have plain discs, call for this cheaper option. (approx 10 days delivery )
After several years of this product not being available from myself, I have instigated the re-manufacture of this kit. Why? Quite simply some of the aftermarket kits available fall short in the quality department!! Discs running out, poorly machined components and lack of back up from the supplier!! The discs are Black Diamond which have an enviable reputation for quality and I have used them for over 15 years without any issues.
The brackets are CNC machined with stainless steel helicoil inserts and anodised for corrosion protection. The kit will have the concentric ring to enable a perfect fit to the hub and HT 10.9 flanged head screws.
Why fit bigger brakes?? I first realised that the MGF was lacking in the brakes department when I first bought one in 1995..for town and traffic driving they were 'adequete' but for any spirited driving, track or touring use they do need better brakes and to keep up with more modern cars. The brakes were basically Metro which were OK for a Metro but not for the MGF. Some of the more sporting Metro models had AP calipers which would have been a good choice!
I developed a bigger brake system and a 4 pot caliper before MG/Rover comissioned AP to supply the AP 4 pot system for the Trophy in 2001.
The AP brakes require certain 16" wheels so they become an expensive option. The 280 mm disc fits under the stock 15" wheel and provides better leverage on the disc.
I would recommend a couple of other upgrades such as the brake servo/bulkhead brace and stainless braided hoses with fresh fluid at the same time.
The Black Diamond pads offer a better quality pad and improved braking.
