Note this design is now superseded by my new 2022 kit which is basically the same design except for the machined top mount. The new design has a re-designed top spring retainer and larger diameter top bushes to suit the 14mm piston rods. There is a reduction in price but still the same ride quality and adjustment.
Designed (2018)and manufactured in the United Kingdom by Mike Satur. This unique MGTF suspension makes a quantum leap for TF owners. Simply the best you can get! "... drives better than ever & is a lot more responsive & the handling is almost to good to be true amazing results!!"
Precision made components that are individually checked and fitted to each assembly. Guaranteed fit without hammers!
Includes two front and two rear rebuilt and machined top arms Note: I will include the new design (1/7/21) front top arm pivots in stainless steel and new thrust washers in stainless steel for an additional £60 (inc vat) which is in this revised price. If you do not require these you will receive a refund of £60 please advise on purchase. You will also receive a refund of £80 on receipt of returned exchange top arms in serviceable condition.
Note:If you wish to adjust camber then order the new design MK2 camber adjusting kit now vailable.£60 plus vat per kit.
MGTF Front shocks have a 14mm lower bore for a larger bolt (std is 12mm) and a metalastic bush, the rear has a 17mm diamater bore for a larger 17mm bolt (std 12mm) with a spherical bearing, no more snapped lower bolts and damaged driveshafts!!. 14mm diameter high tensile piston rod for ultimate strength no flexing underload with a custom made stepped top collet for the top spherical bearing which will allow the shock to move without any stress (no more crude rubber top mounts and don't make the mistake of fitting poly bushes as you run the risk of snapping the piston rod..its only around 9mm thick at thread depth!) and the load directly transfers to the 14mm rod.
New design CNC aluminium top assembly/housing that will bolt into the top of the subframe via a new rubber cushion isolating pad (no drilling required).
The spring and shock body moves without lateral resistance from the mounting plate this unique design allows the shock and spring to move concentrically without any sideways bending of the spring making the unit much more efficient and without undue stress on the top mounting as it is moving freely in the upper bearing in turn this allows a revised spring load. 50mm diameter large capacity shock body for better ride with height adjustment and damper adjustment so the suspension can be fine tuned to your requirements. This is a first for MGTF owners!
Supplied as a fully assembled unit with springs (these can be easily changed for different rates without the need for spring compressors) ready to bolt into the subframe and supplied with new lower fixing bolts CNC precision machined to my design and specifications not a mass produced off the shelf bolt of variable quality. The fit into the shock bearing is precise ..no hammer required!
Of course it's 'not cheap' but in order to address all the design anomalies it was never going to be 'cheap' if you want cheap buy a budgie or some imported garbage that is no better than the stock components. Why do you think MG never did this from new??
This kit includes a set of 4 Shock absorbers with springs, bottom bolts and top mounts.
British made for British cars if you are serious about the best suspension you can buy for your TF then the TransFormer kit is for you.
The criteria for this design was to eliminate all the standard problems the TF has in the suspension department. At the moment any other design on the market is basically a 'copy' of the original factory design, so they are compromised and still have the same issues. NO old parts are re-used as with other kits.
Replacement bearings can easily be removed by removing the retaining circlip and pressing out (Bearing costs are approx. £12)
The kit is supplied with exchange front and rear reconditioned and machined top arms on an exchange basis. Now incorporating the stainless steel pivots for the front top arms. Note I am in production with the rear top arm spacer kit in stainless steel and this will add £29 plus Vat to the kit price .
The front and rear arms are CNC machined on special jigs to ensure accuracy. New oilite bearings and oil seals are fitted to the front top arms and new ss pivots and thrust washers. This eliminates the need for grease and locates the top arm precisely unlike the needle rollers that are standard fitment.
Price for two front arms is £130 plus vat exchange. (Included in the kit price)
The rear arms are machined for the new lower shock bolt and fitted with a new bearing. The price for two rear arms is £160 plus vat exchange. (Included in the kit price)
The arms are blast cleaned then checked for any misalignment or incorrectly cast parts which does happen, then Zinc plated or etched primed for corrosion protection prior to new bearings fitted.
I have designed this kit from a fresh sheet and believe I have eliminated all the inherent issues the standard cars suffer from and a vast improvement on all other designs on the market and what I believe to be good value for the amount of engineering that goes into the kit and importantly made in the UK using British companies.Unlike other kits that are made by German or Chinese companies. Please support UK manufacturers.
Some 'soft ride' kits are really taking the customer for a ride! They are just softer spring rates similar to what I have been making for the 17 years but by UK manufacturers not in China! Buy cheap and you will buy twice! The shocks come with a 2 year warranty from Gaz and can be re-built!!
Beware of using so called upgraded bolts that are a tight fit in the lower bearing..The inner bearing surface is not made for a 'tight 'fitting bolt and would need correctly honing to suit ..if you have to use a hammer to fit it it's not right! Yes there should be clearance between the bolt and bearing due to inconsistancies in the cast arm. That's 'modifying' but not as we know it Guys! The only way to get a perfect fit is to do it the way I have with precision machined components i.e. bolts arms and the bearings all fitting together perfectly and no other company can offer this level of accuracy.
The problem with the lower O.E. bolt is poor quality (mass produced out of tolerance unchecked parts) and bad design fit of the original suspension components using a 'stronger' tighter bolt is not the solution nor is 'increase the tolerance between parts'.
Please read the reviews below.
For customers wanting a 'track' version this will be developed as a follow on design using lightweight aluminium shock bodies and with different spring rates to suit lightened cars running lower.
Customer feedback:
"Swapped from Bilsteins ..they didn't give the level of comfort at all speeds...ok when fast but 'clunky' when slow. The TransFormer kit give a good ride at both speeds when on the M4 to Wales and good on dubious B roads in Wales..a definite improvement over the Bilsteins..I'm looking forward to the run home."

"This kit really has 'Transformed' my TF after trying Bilsteins and then Spax (better) but now this kit is a World of difference."

2005 MG TF
I have recently had my car virtually rebuilt by MG Obsession. Both subframes replaced to powder coated ones, all bushes replaced, brake lines enough to say everything that was required was replaced. At the same time one of Mike's S/S Manifold & Exhaust System along with his re-designed TF suspension system & big rear brake kit. Having well over 40 years of extensively modifying cars his attitude is second to none & the modifications have all worked with total success & my expectations have been well surpassed. I now believe to have almost a brand new car that drives better than ever & is a lot more responsive & the handling is almost to good to be true amazing results!! In my opinion money very well spent & an awful lot of Smiles Per Mile. Mike is a true professional & does not compromise on quality, one the best people I have come across while modifying cars, I would not hesitate to recommend his products & service.
